Rose Rocchio

Rose Rocchio is the Director of the Mobile and Web Strategy Department within UCLA's Office of Advanced Research Computing (OARC).  She has expanded her portfolio beyond the IT realm into the research arena over the last several years.  Rose has played an increasingly significant role as a named Investigator on federal grants (NSF, NIH and VA) in collaboration with researchers from the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies (GSEIS), The Medical Imaging and Informatics Department and with the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System. 

OARC’s Mobile and Web Strategy Department is comprised of four technical teams: A Mobile Platform team specializing in mobile friendly experiences with data collection and visualization capabilities, the Mobilize Labs team focused on delivering custom cross platform native apps for complex research projects, a Web Team specializing in the Drupal content management system, and a Disabilities Computing Program (DCP) Team specializing in accessibility.

Rose also coordinates the UCLA Mobile Steering committee which sets the campus wide direction of mobile and web strategy, including governance of administrative, educational and research mobile apps.  This committee is sponsored by UCLA’s Vice Provost of Information Technology and is focused on furthering mobile friendly content distribution and the academic and research uses of mobile and web technologies.  This role includes advocating for the appropriate strategic uses of new technologies as they emerge on an ever-increasing pace.  

Rose represents OARC on UCLA’s IT Common Systems Group governance committee.  In addition, she represents OARC on the CCLE Standards and Practices Group as well the mHealth committee at the UCLA Medical Center.

Rose is a current Co- Constituent Group Leader of EDUCUASE's Mobile Technology Constituent group. Also within EDUCAUSE, Rose has chaired a series of ECAR Mobile focused workgroups.  For a look at a recent publication from one of the ECAR groups see: Mobile Apps in Higher Education: Developing an institutional Governance Strategy.  Rose is an EDUCAUSE FRYE/Leading Change institute graduate, class of 2011. 

Rose's educational background includes degrees from MIT and the Anderson School of Business at UCLA.
